About Rick
I
have extensive experience providing individual, couples,
family, and group therapy to people with a wide range of
issues. My experience includes working in a variety of
settings including private practice, hospitals, university
counseling centers, and community mental health centers.
The former Director of Wellness at the University of Denver,
I have also presented locally and nationally on issues related to mental health
and wellness. In addition, I am an experienced teacher and supervisor and am
currently an adjunct professor in the counseling psychology department at the
University of Colorado – Denver.
In addition to my private counseling
practice I am an adjunct faculty member at the University of
Colorado at Denver, am president of Beacon View Consulting, LLC (a
local company that provides psychological services to organizations
including training, conflict mediation, and organizational
development), and am the past president of the
Colorado Society of Psychologists in Private Practice.
The Therapeutic Relationship:
The relationship between client and therapist is one of the most important
factors in a successful therapy experience. In fact, research indicates that
an environment in which the client trusts and is comfortable with his or her
therapist provides the best opportunity for success and healthy change.
Consequently, I offer a free initial consultation to allow clients to determine
if there exists a good “fit” between us.
Commitment to Diversity / Multiculturalism:
Throughout my undergraduate and graduate education and all of my practical work
experience, one of my strongest commitments has been to issues of diversity. I
am not only “tolerant” and “understanding” of differences, I am affirmative.
One of my goals as a therapist is to help people unfold into who they are
and truly want to be. I consider it an honor to work with people of all genders,
ethnicities, ages, physical abilities, sexual orientations, religions, and nationalities.
